PERSONAS came through on the previous release, "Subfunk Hill Zone / The Upside Down", with a clear read on where he was going. "Midrange / S Mode" doesn't deviate; it doubles down and they land as the opening statement of a run he's already mapped out.

The production method on both tracks is worth knowing: ideas were voice recorded first, capturing the energy and feeling before anything went near a sequencer, then rebuilt digitally from there. That extra step shows. The midrange sits exactly where he put it, dense and deliberate, and the bassline notes carry that gritty, 16-bit character he was aiming for. Nothing on either track feels like it drifted there by accident.

"Midrange" makes the focus explicit from the name down. The energy is high, the melodic elements cut through without softening the edge, and the whole thing holds that grimey register he's after. "S Mode" runs the same logic: midrange heavy, movement-focused, built for gun fingers and head movement from the first bar.

The 140 and dubstep lineage is present throughout, but the 16-bit texture keeps it from sitting in a predictable pocket. There's pressure here without aggression for its own sake. He's described what's coming after this as more of the same direction, more weight on the floor, and "Midrange / S Mode" reads as the proof of concept for that. The level he's operating at is consistent, and the intention behind it is clear.
